Kiepflower has set itself the goal of staying at the forefront of innovation and being forward-thinking—especially when it comes to sustainable cultivation and reducing our environmental footprint. To achieve this goal, it is important for Kiepflower to keep innovating. But to what extent is this goal being put into practice? And how is it being implemented?

Take a look at our new greenhouse. Since the beginning of this year, Kiepflower has been growing chrysanthemums with care and passion in the new 4-hectare greenhouse. Here, various innovative solutions are used to keep the plants as healthy as possible and ensure optimal growth—all while striving to do so in a 100% biological manner. This wouldn’t be possible without innovative solutions. That’s why we’re highlighting a few innovative features of the new greenhouse. One such solution—relatively simple yet incredibly important—is the insect netting. It keeps the “wrong” insects out, so we don’t have to control them! In addition to the insect netting, there are 14 air treatment units. Based on data regarding air quality inside and outside the greenhouse, these units can regulate the use of indoor and outdoor air. Simply put, Kiepflower can utilize the outdoor air without having to open the windows, which helps prevent, for example, the greenhouse from cooling down too quickly and requiring additional heating. In addition, the air-handling units make it possible to extract heat from the greenhouse when it gets “too” hot and store it for later use. When it cools down significantly at night, this heat can be recirculated back into the greenhouse so that it isn’t lost and, at the same time, we don’t have to turn on the heating. It’s even possible to use this heat in the other greenhouses! Furthermore, the new greenhouse utilizes controllable LED lighting. This means that four different colors of light can be controlled independently and dimmed from 0 to 100%. As a result, these lights can provide the specific light conditions that chrysanthemums need for optimal growth. Two other innovations in the new greenhouse are the use of a fully automatic spray boom that automatically locates the plant covers without requiring human intervention, and the use of a new biological distributor. This biological distributor from Royal Brinkman helps Kiepflower distribute beneficial insects in the most effective way possible. This ensures that the chrysanthemums remain healthy, beautiful, and fresh, allowing you to enjoy them in a vase for a long time!
